CONTACT INFO:

The National Education Board through the Education Act (1983) legally established the National Polytechnic Institute in 2008 then undertook the process of elevating the College to that of a Polytechnic Institute, which was in line with the National Education Plan as supported by the National Department of Education (NDoE). . The official launching of the National Polytechnic Institute of Papua New Guinea was officiated by the late Sir Paulias Matane on the 2nd of December 2009 during the last graduation of the then Lae Technical College as the first of four polytechnics envisioned to be created in each of the four regions of the country.

The National Polytechnic Institute of Papua New Guinea is currently undergoing a transitional period after the NEC Decision No: 25/2017 to transfer all Teachers Colleges and Technical Colleges from NDoE to DHERST to reform, transform and unify the Higher Education Sector in PNG. We are still in the transition stage and are optimistically realigning our approach to growth and expansion in the technical knowledge and skills to meeting targets and expectations of The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) in the coming years.

We aspire to be the leading Polytechnic Institute within Papua New Guinea and the region by producing a skilled, competent and knowledgeable workforce. To be an innovative Polytechnic Institute that is receptive and agile in responding to national aspirations and industry demands, by producing a skilled, competent and knowledgeable workforce.

We are resurging and reforming dynamically to meet our statutory obligation and contribute to quality education in the facets of technical knowledge and skill development. The Institute has 7 Academic Departments – Department of Business Studies, Department of Tourism and Hospitality, Department of Applied Sciences, Department of Architecture and Building, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering.

We are optimistic about meeting the expected standards of DHERST in our ongoing restructuring and reorganization. As the Director, I am proud to share my deep gratitude for the performance of my current staff and students as we continue to forge ahead towards an even brighter future. Intending students, professional from industries and other academic institutions are welcomed to browse our website and interact with our friendly staff for assistance, discussions, and solicitations.
