Introduction:

The electric power industry is one of PNG’s most dynamic growth industries offering unlimited opportunity to the electrical technologists and technicians. Since 1993, LAE TECHNICAL COLLEGE in the Morobe Province has been offering a Diploma Course in Electrical Engineering in lieu of the certificate course in Electrical Engineering.

The diploma programme introduces basic electrical theory and progresses to more advanced theory in electrical machines, electronics, control systems, computer studies, microprocessors, PLC’s and Instrumentation. A balance between theory and practical application bias is maintained throughout the course with supporting course work in English and Mathematics.

More details regarding course fees, messing and accommodation, etc., are available from Lae Technical College or the Technical Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Division of the Department of Education.

  • The minimum entry requirement for this programme is completion of Matriculation Studies or Grade 12 with B grades in Mathematics Major and Physics, and C grade in English and Chemistry.
  • Students who have completed a CHTE course in Electrical Engineering may apply for admission into this programme, provided they possess the necessary minimum entry requirements.
Course Duration:

The Diploma in Electrical Engineering Course must be completed within five (5) years. Students shall be given a project in Stage IV. Ten (10) credit points shall be awarded for the successful completion of the project. On the completion of 250 credit points and other requirements of the Board, the student shall be awarded the Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
