Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Papua New Guinea!
Our program is meticulously crafted to offer a robust and high-quality curriculum tailored for aspiring Civil Engineering Technicians. It stands as a pivotal contributor to the developmental aspirations of Papua New Guinea across all spheres. Graduates of our program are equipped to:
- Supervise diverse Civil Engineering projects effectively.
- Understand the intricacies of structural designs comprehensively.
- Possess a solid foundation in scientific and mathematical principles.
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer literacy, including usage and troubleshooting.
- Cultivate skills in civil/structural drafting or gain insight into construction methodologies.
- Execute measurement collection, recording, and reduction utilizing survey equipment
- Master the installation and utilization of operating systems like MS-DOS and Windows, along with various relevant Windows-based software packages.
- Perform design calculations for road works, water supply, sewerage, and drainage systems.
- Enhance communication abilities, a crucial aspect in professional development.

- Grade 12 Certificate with Credit grades in Maths A and Physics, and a C grade in English, as well as other Science subjects. Alternatively, candidates may have twelve months of industrial experience in the field of Civil Engineering or related areas.
- The minimum entry requirement is a Grade 10 certificate with Credit grades in English, Mathematics, and Science. Additionally, candidates must have twenty-four months of industrial experience in the field of Civil Engineering or related areas, and possess a PETT or Trade Certificate in Building and allied trade areas.
Course Duration:
The course consists of four stages of twenty weeks full time attendance at the institution over three to four year successive years.
Certification:
On successful completion of stage three in Civil Engineering Diploma Course students will be awarded a ‘Certificate of Higher Technical Education in Civil Engineering’ and on successful completion of the fourth stage, students will be awarded a ‘Diploma in Civil Engineering
