Introduction

Welcome to the newest section in the Business Studies Department of The National Polytechnic Institute of Papua New Guinea (NPIPNG). Courses delivered in this section were obtained from the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF). The Business Services (BSB) Training Package is the reference document from which all the three courses were unpacked and delivered using the Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) starting with Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma. Training/learning materials are sourced from an Australian Supplier to give our students are more current and quality training, preparing them for the real workplace. We therefore are confident to say that the NPIPNG is delivering Australian Qualifications in Human Resource Management to meet the current industry demands in the current workforce of Papua New Guinea. We value our team of experienced HRM staff from both the private and public sector; they bring onboard a wealth of experience to train our upcoming leaders and managers. BSB40420 CERTIFICATE IV IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in a range of human resources roles. The job roles that relate to this qualification may include Human Resources Officer, Human Resources Coordinator and Payroll Officer.

Responsibilities are likely to be determined at a workplace level. Some smaller organisations may require employees to work across all aspects of human resources. In larger organisations, individuals may support a single human resources function.

Gr.12 – Secondary Education Certificate or working class with relevant experience in related fields in HRM

6 months (20 weeks)

Successful completion of Certificate IV in Human Resource Management and or working class with 3-5 years’ work experience in the related field. *Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) mode applicable in this course.

Course duration:

12 months (40 weeks) with Internal Work Experience or Job Training with NPIPNG.




This qualification reflects the role of individuals who provide leadership and support strategic direction in the human resources activities of an organisation. Their knowledge base may be highly specialised or broad within the human resources field. The job roles that relate to this qualification may include Human Resources Manager and Senior Human Resources Business Partner.

Responsibilities are likely to be determined at a workplace level. Some smaller organisations may require employees to work across all aspects of human resources. In larger organisations, individuals may manage a single human resources function.

Successful completion of Diploma of Human Resource Management or a Diploma Qualification in any Business Studies or Management or other related fields and or working class with 3-5 years’ work experience in the related field. *Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) mode applicable in this course.

Course duration:

12 months (40 weeks) with Industrial Work Experience or Job Training with Lae Business Community + Major Project
