AIMS:

The course is designed to provide a sound high quality of study for prospective Architectural Technicians in Architural practices and middle management of the construction industry. The aim of this diploma course is to train students to be competently involved in every stage of building procurement. It is highly relevant to the development aims of PNG at all levels. It enables graduates to:

  • Develop the ability to supervise various Architectural projects.
  • Appreciate requiments of building designs.
  • Gain a sound knowledge of scientific and mathematical principles.
  • Develop sound abality in contract documentation.
  • Develop abilities in communication
  • Gain a sound knowledge of computers and their usage, and computing problems.
  • Correctly choose and use construction materials.
  • Gain knowledge of construction safety standards and PNG building Ragulations.
  • Obtain, record, and reduce measurement using survey equipment.
  • Develop the ability to rationalize relevant and safe method of construction.
  • Develop skill in the installation and use of operating system such as MS-DOS and windows, and several general and relevant windows-based software packages


  • Grade 12 (or equivalent) With B grade in Math A and physics and C grade in English and other science subjects.
  • Relevant trade certificate with six to twelve months industral experience in the field of Architecture or related area.

Course Duration:

The course consists of four stages of twenty weeks full time attendance at the institute for two successive years.

Certification:

On successful complition of stage three in Architectural Drafting Diploma course students will be awarded a 'Certificate of Higher Technical Education in Architectural Drafting'

To proceed on to stage four and final stage of diploma course, a score of 65% of the overall assessment of stage three must be obtain. On successful completion of the fourth stage, students will be awarded a 'Diploma in Architectural Drafting'.

Notes for Reference
  • Previous Admin & Resources Fees are amalgamated into Compulsory Fees.
  • HECAS students are charged less by K900 as its subsidized by DHERST through Resource Allocations of K450/semester
  • Business Studies students new intakes will pay an additional K140.00 - cost for introductory to Accounting in PNG textbook as they will take it home
  • Electrical Engineering has been charged PPE K500.00
  • Civil Engineering has been charged PPE K500.00
  • Indications are for students to pay 70% minimum for a semester fee if cannot be able to come up with the total
